Watford Borough Roll of Honour

Pre War

Son of Thomas James and Alice (nee CARTER) DICKINSON of Pinner, Middx.

His parents married 25 April 1891 at St James’, St Pancras, London.  Alice died 1919 in Watford aged 46, and was buried 12 April in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; Thomas died 1948 in the Northampton district aged 76.

William was born 1899 in Wood Green, Middx.

On the 1901 Census, aged 1 he lived in Oxhey, Herts, with his parents and no siblings.  On the 1911 Census, at school aged 11 he lived in Watford, with his parents and two siblings.

Wartime Service

He enlisted in Watford, and was formerly Private G/81712 Royal Fusiliers.  He was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and was killed in action.  

Additional Information

There is an article about and a Death announcement for William in the West Herts and Watford Observer dated 6 July 1918; plus an In Memoriam in the issue dated 7 June 1919.

Unfortunately, William’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
