Son of Reverend Frederick Ernest MacDonald and Martha (nee PIKE) DOCKER of Westbury, Wilts.

His parents married 1874 in the Birmingham district. Martha died 25 February 1918 in Westbury aged 68, and was buried 28 February in Westbury Cemetery; Frederick died 17 October 1918 in Westbury aged 65, and was buried 22 October, also in Westbury Cemetery.

Alfred was born 16 November 1892 in the West Bromwich, Staffs, district. He attended Peckham Council School, London; then Hendon Council School, Middx, to December 1907. Was not at school from December 1907 to September 1908; then at Trowbridge Boys’ High School, Wilts, from 15 September 1908 to 21 December 1909. He resided in Bushey, Herts, and was an undergraduate of London University.

On the 1901 Census, aged 8 he lived in Camberwell, Surrey, with his parents and eight siblings. On the 1911 Census, a bank clerk aged 18, he lived in West Hampstead, London, in the household of his brother Frederick.

Wartime Service

He enlisted in Kensington, London; was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914-15 Star medals, his qualifying date being 11 February 1915, and was presumed dead killed in action 9 May 1915.

Additional Information

Unfortunately, Alfred’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
