Son of Alick and the late Emily (nee BAKER) FARLEY of Singleton, Chichester, Sussex.
His parents married 13 November 1888 at All Saints, South Lambeth, London. Alick died 8 February 1920 in Singleton aged 66; Emily died 1910 in the Westhampnett, Sussex, district aged 50.
Robert was born 1891 in Singleton, and baptised 14 February 1892 at the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Singleton. He resided in Singleton.
On the 1901 Census, aged 9 he lived in Singleton with his parents and two siblings. On the 1911 Census, an apprentice ironmonger aged 19, he still lived in Singleton, with his widowed father and one sibling.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in Shepherd’s Bush, London; was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914-15 Star medals, his qualifying date being 16 November 1915, and died of wounds received in action.
Additional Information
There is an article about Robert in the West Herts and Watford Observer dated 19 August 1916. Date of death also given as 26th July in some sources. Unfortunately, Robert’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
