Son of Waldow/Waldo and Alice Caroline or Caroline Alice (nee JENKINS) LINSELL of Watford.

His parents married 1896 in the St Pancras, London, district.  Alice died 1928 in Watford aged 58, and was buried 5 June in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; Waldow died 1955 in Watford aged 82, and was buried 9 June, also in Vicarage Road Cemetery.

Mark was born 20 June 1897 in Willesden, London, and attended Beechen Grove Board School, Watford, from 30 October 1906 to 22 November 1907.  He resided in Watford.

On the 1901 Census, aged 3 he lived in Harlesden, London, with his parents and two siblings.  On the 1911 Census, at school and a grocer’s errand boy aged 13, he lived in Watford, with his parents and three siblings.

Wartime Service

He attested 15 November 1915 for Short Service (Duration of the War): a shop assistant aged 19 of Watford. 

He embarked from Folkestone, disembarking at Boulogne 28 June 1916, and joined the 33rd Brigade 29 June 1916. 

He was attached to the 22nd Battalion Manchester Regiment when he was killed in action.  He was entitled to the Victory and British War medals.
