Watford Borough Roll of Honour

Pre War

Son of Charles and the late Alice (nee EVANS) MUNT of Watford.

His parents married 26 August 1893 at St John the Baptist, Kentish Town, London. Alice died 1894 in the St Pancras. London, district aged 25. Charles remarried 22 August 1896 at St Mary’s, Watford, to Emily Kate BROWN; he died 8 April 1934 in Watford aged 66, and was buried 11 April in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; Emily died 8 May 1941 in Watford aged 73, and was buried 12 May, also in Vicarage Road Cemetery.

Charles was born 1894 in Kentish Town, and baptised 1 July 1894 at St Leonard’s, Sandridge, Herts. He resided in Watford.

On the 1901 Census, aged 6 he lived in Watford, with his father, step-mother and one sibling. On the 1911 Census, a railway clerk aged 16 he still lived in Watford, with his father, step-mother and one sibling.

Wartime Service

He enlisted in London; was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914 Star medals, his qualifying date being 15 August 1914, and was killed in action. 

Additional Information

There is a Death announcement for Charles in the West Herts and Watford Observer dated 5 June 1915. Unfortunately, Charles’ Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
