Pre War

Son of Minnie Margaret (nee COX) and the late Alexander SPRINGHAM.

His parents married 1899 at Leeds Register Office, Yorks.  Alexander died 1902 in the Hartley Wintney, Hants, district aged 35; Minnie died 26 August 1937 in King’s Langley, Herts, aged 65.

Alexander was born 1895 in Aldershot, and baptised 17 September 1905 at Bisley, Hants.

On the 1901 Census, aged 5 he lived in Aldershot, with his parents and three siblings.  On the 1911 Census, a Boy in the Royal Horse Artillery aged 15, he was stationed at Seaforth Barracks, Lancs.

Wartime Service

He enlisted in Aldershot, Hants; was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914 Star medals, his qualifying date being 16 August 1914, and was killed in action.  

Additional Information

Unfortunately, Alexander’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.

His brother Henry died 11 August 1920 and also features on Watford Borough Roll of Honour.
