Antonio was the son of Mrs Julietta Gallo of 16 Yale Court, West Hampstead. 

Wartime Service

He served in 5th Bedfordshires before he was attached to the 1st Hertfordshires.


He was awarded the Military Cross in January 1917 for his actions during the fighting on the Somme on 13th November the previous year. His citation reads: “For conspicuous gallantry in action. He assumed command of and led his company in the attack with great gallantry, captured his objective, and consolidated the position. Later he repulsed an enemy attack. He set a fine example throughout.” .
