Pre War

Frederick Wilson, bn 26 May 1892, Rickmansworth, baptised 28 June 1895 and was one of 7 children, son of David and Sarah Wilson. 


He was the brother of Private 27066 James David Wilson and Private 10176 George Wilson, both of whom died and are on the Rickmansworth memorial, and Charles Frederick Wilson who also survived.


In 1891 the family were living at 4 Calving Terrace, Norfolk Road and David, his father was working at a paper mill as a labourer.


In 1901 they lived at Riverside Cottages, Norfolk Road, Rickmansworth. In 1911 they lived at 114 Norfolk Road and James was working as a general labourer.

Wartime Service

His service papers have survived, and he was soldier No. 47633, 3rd Northamptonshire Reg't. Frederick enlisted at Watford on 24 April 1917, aged stated 24yrs 9mths.


The National Roll of Honour states that he was called to service in May 1917 and two months later was sent to Mesopotamia where he fought in many important engagement including Baghdad.


Other source state that he was sent to Egypt on 11 July 1917, and was wounded on 3 Nov 1917.


He was demobilised in December 1918 and returned to his home address of 114 Norfolk Road, Rickmansworth.


He was awarded the British War Medal and Victory Medal.
