Biography
He was born in and resided in Hertfordshire. His Service Number was 2613556 and he was in the 3rd Battalion.
On the morning of the 28th May 1940, the Germans attacked the 3rd Battalion of the Grenadiers immediately north of the Commines-Warneton Canal The Grenadiers were well-supported by artillery and machine-guns and fought all day without yielding ground but suffering heavy casualties.
He was buried in Grave 36 of the Bas-Warneton (Neer-Waasten) Communal Cemetery in Belgium. A private inscription on the headstone reads "God's greatest gift remembrance. You are so far away. Loving wife and son".
He was the son of Harry and Grace Barton and husband of Elsie Barton of Hitchin. He had a son.
