Biography
He was educated at St. Michael's College, Hitchin and excelled at games winning a number of trophies. He was also an altar server at St. Andrew's Church.
He enlisted into the Merchant Navy and went four times round the world before working at Lloyds Ltd in Letchworth.
He joined the RAF. on the 31st May 1941 and was given Service Number 1331421. Not long after he had obtained his wings, he was badly injured in an aircraft accident, and he died within a very short time at a hospital in Oxford. His parents were able to visit and talk to him shortly after he had been operated upon.
He was buried in Hitchin Cemetery in Grave 109, West Section. His memorial stone is in granite with the R.A.F. emblem and the inscription "They shall grow not old as .. . We will remember them".
His parents were William James and Matilda Dodge of 52, Brampton Park Rd, Hitchin.
