Biography

He was born in Bedford and, at the time of enlistment, was residing in Cambridgeshire. His Service Number was 6022789 and at the time of his death he was a member of the l/6th Battalion of the Regiment. 


The 1/6th Battalion of the East Surreys were part of the 10th Infantry Brigade of the 4th Infantry Division of XIII Corps. Heavy fighting had taken place as the British XIII and I Corps tried to smash their way through the German defences either side of Lake Trasimene west of Perugia in Italy. They finally secured Chiusi by the 26th June. 


His grave is situated in Plot 1, Row E, Grave 2 in the Assisi War Cemetery in Italy. 


He was the son of John and May Ethel Fleet of Hitchin.
