Biography

Before the war he had been a representative for the Prudential Assurance Company Limited for 20 years. He originally came to Hitchin in 1936 from Framlingham in Suffolk where he had been organist at Wickham Market On arrival here he was organist and choirmaster at St. Ippolyts Church. He was also a member of Icknield Masonic Lodge in Letchworth. 


He joined the RAF. at the beginning of August 1942 and was allocated Service Number 1626905 and was still at No. 16 Reception Centre when by the middle of the month he had developed toxic jaundice. His wife Gwendoline was called to the hospital in the Eastern Counties, but he succumbed to the illness. 


He was buried in St. Ippolyts New Churchyard. His grave consists of a stone kerb and is situated at the far right looking into the New Churchyard in St. Ippolyts. His wife is commemorated on the same kerb. 


He was married and had three children.
