Hitchin Boys’ Grammar School Memorial (WW2), Welwyn Garden City Memorial

Biography

He attended the Hitchin Grammar School from 1934-1938 and after leaving school went to Holloway Polytechnic in London. 


He joined the R.A.F. and was given Service Number 1272068 and was a rear gunner. 


He was reported missing in the Middle East by Autumn 1942, and it was later confirmed that he had been killed. At the time he was flying with 70 Squadron in a Wellington 1 C with its base in Abu Sueir near Ismailia in Egypt. 


He has no known grave and is remembered on Column 262 of the Alamein Memorial. 


His home was at 22 Elmwood, Welwyn Garden City and his father was Mr J.C. Thomas.
