Pre War
*1 Currently we have insufficient information to positively identify this soldier. The St Albans Cathedral Diocese records give his name as W H Petto, suggests a connection to Hertford and that he was a Private in the Royal Regiment of Artillery (Royal Field Artillery?). However, no likely candidate has yet been found. There is a William Henry Petts, who is associated with Hertford and does appear on memorials there, one might assume this to me a spelling error, but for the fact that William was a pre-war regular in the Bedfordshire Regiment with no evidence found for any transfer to the RFA.
