The text for this book and all photographs were kindly provided to the HAW Project by Chris Willis, Albert’s grandson.
Albert served with the Hertford Regiment, survived the war and led a very full life. His book is the story of that life and contains a chapter on the war and as he explains “As I have said, I am not going to write much of war experiences; The photographs will tell the story of what a battlefield really is. At the moment my mind is not so much on the war but on the individuals I met in that war.”
Not all the photographs in the published book are available so some slight modifications have been made to take this into account.
